“Stop apologizing.”

This is something that I’ve heard from the males in my improv class. To be told that is something quite odd to me. It’s practically second nature to me, and to a lot of woman I believe, to apologize for anything and everything. In my case, whenever I feel as though I did something awful in class, not wanting to look as though I’m a know-it-all who doesn’t need any kind of direction, the words “I’m sorry” roll easily off my tongue. And then the stares. Not stares of accepting my apology mind you, instead stares of disbelief, confusion.

“Why are you apologizing?”

“Because I messed up.”

“No, stop apologizing.”

No one has ever told me that before and yes it may sound weird but I’m still wrapping my head around it.

I’m starting to appreciate how much these people mean to me and it’s a wonderful thing.
